He is an official of Auric Goldfinger's branch of a powerful unnamed criminal organization based on Ian Fleming's SPECTRE. Lore & Background

Scaramanga serves as a mentor figure to the protagonist, communicating through an earpiece and providing upgrades for the cybernetic eye. He first equips the eye with MRI vision, allowing GoldenEye to see through walls. Later, he provides the eye with a computer virus that GoldenEye can use to overload the OMEN (Organic Mass Energy Neutralizer), a weapon developed by Goldfinger's scientists that releases energy capable of breaking down organic matter on a nearly atomic level. Scaramanga's role is technical and advisory; he does not appear in combat sequences but is instrumental in the protagonist's missions, including the final confrontation with Goldfinger.

In Their Own Story

Scaramanga is first encountered at Auric Enterprises, where Goldfinger's scientists have developed the OMEN weapon. He presents the protagonist with a gold-hued cybernetic eye, created specifically for him, and from this implant the protagonist receives his codename: "GoldenEye." Scaramanga provides upgrades for the eye throughout the game, starting with MRI vision. During the mission at The Octopus, Scaramanga helps GoldenEye download navigation coordinates to Crab Key, Dr. No's base, by using the generated force field from the golden eye. In the final act, Scaramanga provides the mechanical eye with a computer virus that GoldenEye can use to overload the OMEN. After Goldfinger's death, Scaramanga and Number One (Ernst Stavro Blofeld) discuss what to do with GoldenEye and decide to simply see what he does next before proceeding.

Reader's Guide

Scaramanga is a non-playable character in *GoldenEye: Rogue Agent*. He appears in cutscenes and communicates with the protagonist via earpiece. His primary function is to provide upgrades for the GoldenEye implant, which grants four abilities: MRI vision (see through walls), EM hack (hack electronic systems and enemies' weapons), polarity shield (deflect incoming bullets), and magnetic field (send enemies flying). Each ability is granted as the game progresses and requires energy from a meter that slowly recharges. Scaramanga's computer virus is a key plot device used to destroy the OMEN weapon in the final level. Players interact with Scaramanga indirectly; he does not have a player-controlled role in either campaign or multiplayer.
